Golf Course Description

The resort, which hosts the Detroit Newspapers Michigan Open, has three regulation eighteen hole courses. Designed by Jack Nicklaus, the Bear Course winds its way through the rolling Michigan hills. Almost two miles out at the turn, this expansive course features large, elevated fairways and multiple-tiered greens. The signature hole is #13, a 167-yard, par 3, which was cut through the lush woods. Accuracy off the tee is essential, as this hole plays over a pond to a cloverleaf green and is protected by four sand bunkers. With an abundance of native pine, spruce, oak, and birch, both the Wolverine and Spruce Run courses boast scenic views of the Easy Bay of Lake Michigan. The Wolverine plays slightly more forgiving than the Bear, with its undulated, rolling greens. Offering multiple tees on each hole, this course can accommodate players of any skill level. Spruce Run, the oldest of the three courses, has two distinct personalities. The front nine plays relatively tight, while the back nine is more wide open. A river comes into play on two holes, and the sloping greens are slightly undulated and generously sized. Discounted green fees are available for resort guests and carts are mandatory on all three courses.
