This first-class resort, which was named to “GOLF Magazine’s” 1996 list of “Silver Medal Resorts,” features four award-winning eighteen hole courses and a nine hole par 3 course. The Jones Masterpiece Course is the most difficult layout because the greens are small and fast, and the fairways are narrow and tree lined. “Golf Digest” rated this course as the 6th “Best Public Course” in the state for 1996, and 46th among the “Top 75 Upscale Courses.” The same publication rated the Masterpiece the 17th “Best in State” Course for 1996-96, and 19th best in 1997-98. In the category of “Top 75 Resort Courses,” “Golf Digest” rated it 27th for 1992. The Fazio Premier Course and the Smith Treetops Course have somewhat more forgiving fairways, but are still tree lined. The greens are large, and there is just one water hazard coming into play on the Smith Signature Course. “Golf Digest” rated the Fazio Premier as the 2nd “Best Public Course” in the state for 1996, the 5th “Best in State” Course for 1995-96, and 22nd best in 1997-98. In addition “GOLF Magazine” named it 80th among the “Top 100 Courses You Can Play in the U.S.” for 1998, and the Smith Signature Course was ranked 89th in the same category. “Golf Digest” rated the Smith Course the 24th “Best in State” Course for 1997-98. In addition, “GOLFWEEK” awarded it 17th among “America’s 100 Best Modern Courses” for 1997, 46th for 1998 and 54th for 1999. The par 3 Threetops Course has many outstanding holes including #3, a 216-yard, par 3, featuring a 145-foot vertical drop from tee to green. In addition, hole #9 has a ninety-foot vertical drop from tee to green. This course is heavily bunkered, and the undulating greens are fast. Only one water hazard comes into play on this course. The terrain on all four courses is hilly, and the tee boxes are elevated. The scorecard for the Threetops Course doesn’t show handicaps for individual holes. In addition, the nine hole green fees are only applicable after 4 PM. The newest course, The Tradition, was specifically designed for players who like to walk and caddies will be available. Powered carts are not allowed on The Tradition Course. There is a golf academy on the premises that offers exceptional golf instruction by qualified PGA professionals.
