The eighteen hole course, known as the “Big G”, is very scenic with a front nine that plays long and has narrow fairways that are tree lined. The back nine is even more challenging because of its wide diversity of holes and water hazards. The greens are fast, undulating, and medium sized. The nine hole course is tricky with its blind shots and very small greens with extremely deep bunkers. A.W. Tillinghast originally designed the course in 1925, Joe Finger then redesigned the course and added some new holes in 1968. The signature hole is Big G’s #13, a 525 yard par 5 with an elevated tee that looks over a fairway that is well-guarded on the left side by Grossinger’s Lake and requires an approach shot to an island green. The club started, then hosted the New York State Open from 1978 to 1988. “Golf Digest” rated the Big G course in 1996-97 as the “2nd Best Public Course” in the Northeast.
