Golf Course Description

This club has an eighteen hole regulation course and a nine hole par 3 course. The Eighteen Hole Course features a traditional design highlighted by small, fast greens and many trees lining its fairways. Not only is hole #18 the signature hole, but locals consider this 491-yard, par 5, as the most difficult hole on the course. The 1938, 1960, and 1978 U.S. Opens were held on the Eighteen Hole Course. In 1960, Arnold Palmer drove the 404-yard first hole on his way to victory and there is a commemorative plaque to remind players of that accomplishment. “Golf Digest” rated this course 31st best out of “America’s 100 Greatest Courses” for the years 1995 through 1998, and also rated it as the “Best in State” course for the same time frame. In addition, “GOLF Magazine” awarded it 37th among the “Top 100 Courses in the U.S.” for 1995, 41st in 1997 and 47th in 1999. “GOLFWEEK” ranked it 31st among “America’s 100 Best Classical Courses” for 1997, 52nd in 1998 and 66th in 1999. The nine hole par 3 course is known as the Rip Arnold Course. This course features sand bunkers surrounding every one of its undulating greens. The nine hole course is free of charge for all club members and their guests.
