101 Forest Park Dr New York, NY 11421
718-296-0999
This hilly course, situated in the midst of a densely residential neighborhood in Queens, is rather short with tree-lined fairways and small, asymmetrical greens. There are three water holes, which is unusual for a city course. From hole #9, there is a captivating view of Lower Manhattan. The facility underwent renovations during 1997 and was lengthened by approximately 200 yards and increased to a par 70. Tee boxes were rebuilt, fairways and greens re-seeded, and cart paths were added. This course made the news during President Clinton’s spring 1997 visit to New York to celebrate the anniversary of Jackie Robinson’s breaking the baseball color barrier. A golfer was caught chipping balls at the presidential motorcade as it passed by the course. The consensus among those familiar with the perp’s game said it was not a legitimate threat. John Van Kleek (1934) and Lindsay Ervin (1986) have done redesigns on this course.
