Snowshoe Rd Edray, WV 26209

This course was designed with the average golfer in mind. The terrain is very hilly and requires many uphill shots. Gary Player used a lot of the natural terrain while designing this course. The front nine plays through hardwoods and around several lakes, and then climbs into higher elevations for the back nine, with several cliff-side tee boxes. Some of the greens overlook the entire mountain side, while others are also on top of a cliff. The fairways are tight, including eleven that are tree lined, so there is a real need for accuracy. Water hazards (three ponds and a creek) come into play on eight holes. The green on hole #2 is almost completely surrounded by the creek. The #14 and #18 holes have creeks down the middle of their fairways. In 1996, “Golf Digest” rated this as one of the “Top Ten New Courses You Can Play In The U.S.” “Golf Digest” also rated this as the 2nd “Best Public Course” in the state for 1996. In addition, “Golf Digest” rated it 98th best under the 1996 category of the “Top 100 Course You Can Play in the U.S.” The same publication also rated it as the 2nd “Best in State” course for 1995-96, and the 4th best for 1997-98. “GOLFWEEK” rated it 96th among “America’s 100 Best Modern Courses” for 1998 and 97th for 1999. The 5,976-yard men’s tee also has a ladies’ course rating of 74.7 and slope of 132.
